Pacific Cup 2022 is a wrap! It was an adventure that will never be forgotten. The crew and Mako are well and adjusting to life on land in beautiful Oahu, Hawaii.
We finished 6th of 9 boats in our very tight class. We held 2nd place for the first half of the race and 2nd was hotly contested for the second half of the race. If we had finished 9 hours earlier we could have held on to 2nd place. That’s pretty close racing for 2,070 miles across the Pacific Ocean. Looking at the whole fleet, we are 17th out of 56 boats. We feel pretty good about that standing.
We had many highs and lows during the trip. We learned so much and realized how much more we need to learn to be better ocean racers. I’ll try to tell a few stories in a future blog but for now I’m going to show some of our favorite pics and short videos.
We had lots of nice sunrise and sunsets. The best was a full moonbow in the middle of the night. We couldn’t get any pics of it though.
Tom, the most trimmingest guy I know in his natural element. Spinnaker trimmers are the gas pedal for down wind sailing and Tom kept of moving fast.
Jason, rigger extraordinaire, inspecting the rig pre race. Jason did an amazing job of preparing the boat and staying ahead of chafe issues throughout the race. Mako had zero problems that slowed us down over the course of the race… we caused the problems.
Bill, our navigator, did an exceptional job of keeping us on course and routing us to the breeze and current.
Scotty on the big blue wheel doing some expert helming as he did the entire race!
Half way party. Leis and hooch and freeze dried ice cream sandwiches. Olives and smoked oysters and crackers brought out the smiles.
Jesse taking the helm with the race flags flying high.
Reese, on the final day fantasizing about big breeze and a long shower.
Jason looks happy! We must have been kicking ass at this point of the race.
This monster wrapped on the keel on the final day. The crew dropped the spinnaker and back down and removed it and decided to bring it to shore for a proper disposal. Reese slept through the whole ordeal.
Tied up next the big dogs at Kaneohe Yacht Club.
Everyone should be so proud!!! That was quite a feet.
Congrats!
